Victorian's Secret: The Secret Beneath the Shape

  • "Wood County's Role in the Civil War"
    • Civil War historian and enthusiast Tom Boltz covers the history of the Wood County men who fought to preserve the unity of the United States. Approximately 2000 Wood County men served in the Union military during 1861-1865, and nearly 450 of them died in the effort. Topics include the recruitment of regiments in the county, significant battles and events, the return of soldiers and sailors after the war, and Wood County Union military veterans’ organizations such as the Grand Army of the Republic.
  • "Aprons: Tie One One"
    • Becky White-Schooner from Schooner Farms in Weston looks at the apron's journey through time and why this practical piece of cloth has become an iconic piece of history.
  • "Jane Austen"
    • Wood County Historical Museum Director, Christie Weininger, portrays Jane Austen in this entertaining and fascinating story of her life in the late 1700s through the turn of the century.
  • "Victorian's Secret: The Secret Beneath the Shape"
    • Learn the secret beneath the shape of the distinctive Victorian style and how it women's roles changed throughout the Victorian-era.
  • "Shooting It Out with Pretty Boy Floyd"
    • Wood County Museum Curator Randy Brown recounts the criminal exploits of this notorious outlaw and his gang members leading up to the death of Patrolman R. H. Castner of Bowling Green, Ohio.
  • "How to Preserve Your Family Treasures"
    • Wood County Museum Curator Randy Brown points out easy tips on how to keep your family treasures preserved for future generations. Topics include textiles, photographs, papers, and household heirlooms.
  • "Dating Through the Decades"
    • From Victorian calling cards to modern-day speed dating, this presentation touches on courtship, dating, and marriage traditions from the Victorian-era, the Jazz Age of the 1930s, the 1950s sock hops, to modern methods like speed dating and dot-com relationships.
  • "Infirmary History"
    • The Wood County Infirmary operated from 1869-1971 to provide solice to the county's poor, elderly, indigent, and needy. See how the Poor House operated under the County's lead and meet some of the people who put the "home" in County Home.
  • "Infirmary Foodways Tour"
    • You are what you eat, they say, but what we eat says a lot about who we are and where we live. Northwest Ohio Foodways give us a glimpse into the pioneers that drained the Black Swamp to uncover some of the richest farm land in the country. [more about Northwest Ohio Foodways]
  • "Life In the Great Black Swamp"
    • From the pioneers who drained the Great Black Swamp to the businessmen who capitalized on the Oil and Gas Boom - a look at the early days of Wood County and the struggles that were overcome to get us where we are today.
