Event Date: 2012 date TBA
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location: Wood County Historical Center & Museum
13660 County Home Road, Bowling Green, OH 43402

President Jimmy Carter first declared Grandparents Day a national holiday in 1978! If you are a GRANDparent or a GRANDkid, come to the GRAND event at the museum to find out more about generational differences -- and similarites!
(Grandparents Day is actually Sunday, September 9, 2012, according to Grandparents.com)

Held in conjunction with BE A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN TOWN and BGSU FAMILY WEEKEND... Tour your own community through the eyes of a tourist, and be sure to stop by the Museum for our Demo Day...

Special Activities:

  • MAKE-YOUR-OWN DONUTS AND CIDER : We will be making donuts using the recipe from the original Infirmary cookbook and pressing apple cider with a hand-cranked cider press.
  • GENERATIONAL GAMES FROM 1912 to 2012 : Fun and games for all generations with classics such as croquet, hopscotch, and marbles -- and today's popular electronic games like Wii.
  • TOUR THE INFIRMARY SITE : Tour the museum, barns, herb garden, and outbuildings to see historic farm equipment and Infirmary-related artifacts. Meet our members or watch demonstrations in the Blacksmith Shop, Oil Derrick, Pole Barn, and Herb Garden.
  • ORAL HISTORIES : Using the Musem's recording devices, interview each other about what it is, or was, like to be a kid.  The interviews will be transcribed and placed in the museum’s archive for future research and exhibits.

FREE admission all weekend.

In conjunction with this event, the museum is offering special GRAND memberships.  With the purchase of this special membership, grandchildren and grandparents receive free admission to the museum for one year when they visit together. GRAND memberships are available for $20 and renewable on an annual basis.

See the special program in the Sentinel-Tribune or visit the BG Convention & Visitors Bureau for a list of other popular, and sometimes overlooked, tourist attractions.

A GRAND IDEA for the GRAND PEOPLE in your life!

We are offering a special membership to the Wood County Historical Society for Grandparents and Grandchildren.

While our family membership ($25.00) covers all members of the same household, a Grand Membership ($20.00) covers Grandparents and all of their Grandchildren. They will receive FREE admission to the Historical Museum along with other Membership benefits. Choose which Grand Membership works for you:

1) Memberships purchased in the name of a child or a group of siblings in the same household will cover that child (or children) and all of their grandparents.

2) A membership purchased in the name of a grandparent (or grandparents living in the same household) will apply to that grandparent and all of their grandchildren.

Either way, all will receive FREE admission to the Historical Museum along with other Membership benefits.

Grand Membership will be good for one year from date of purchase and are renewable.
